A little while ago a mother duck made a nest and laid eggs under a bush in my parents yard.
On Sunday the eggs hatched and out came ten little ducklings!
Hannah, Paul and I weren't able to see them that fresh as we were in Hurricane Utah at the time.
Our parents told us they were adorable though and had started swimming in their pool.
We were very excited.
When we got back from hurricane we were able to see the little guys swimming and playing!
They did stir up a bit of drama though.
Yesterday, while swimming, their mother just left them.
Hannah thought to call our other sister Becca because she works at a zoo.
Becca said that sometimes when a mom duck leaves her babies it means they don't have a chance at life so she isn't going to waste any more of her time.
We were very worried for the little fellas so we took action.
We got them a kitty pool so they would have fresh water and it would be easier to get in and out of, and we planned on boxing them up and taking them to BYU to be fostered if their mother never returned.
Luckily, she returned.
They are all to snobby to use the small pool anyway.
The drama for today was worse though.
The mother had gotten out of the pool with eight of her babies but left the two.
We were very concerned they wouldn't be able to get out and they would just get tired and drown.
So we attempted to scoop them out.
They swam around frantically to avoid the scooper.
One, lost all of his energy and started just laying on top of the water but my dad finally scooped him out and he ran to his mom.
The other one, wasn't so fortunate.
When my dad scooped him, he was a bit too agressive.
The little duckling flew over the fence.
I wasted no time at all, I jumped the fence in to the neighbor's yard and with gloves on, caught him and we returned him back to safety with his mom.
So any way, the little ducklings are the cuttest little guys on earth and I thought it would be fun to post about them with some photos.
Please enjoy!
